HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! And a Giveaway

Five years ago I started my blog.  And I've been blogging on and off ever since.  Here's what's up today.

For a while I've been receiving some wonderful 1/2 yard stacks of fabrics from Pink Castle as a gift from Kevin and Aimee. Every month I received 6 half yard pieces based on the color wheel.  You can read about it by clicking on the link above.  I liked it as a gift so much that I've continued it as a gift to myself.  I am planning on going through the one year cycle.  It's so much fun to open an envelope each month and have glorious fabric fall out.  Here's September's selection.  And, just a note, if you are looking for traditional fabric or historical fabric, this isn't the place for you.
September fabric from Pink Castle's Stash Stack Club.
And, now with no further ado, on to my giveaway.  I recently bought several Mighty Bright LED Sewing Machine Lights.  Here's what it says about this light on the Mighty Bright web page

"This one's designed with the sewing aficionado in mind. The immensely popular Sewing Machine Light is a versatile, energy-efficient and cool-to-the-touch LED light for use in sewing, embroidery, and detail-intensive projects. We listened to our avid sewing friends, and created a light to meet all your needs. Cordless? Check. Flexible? Check. Detachable? Check. The Sewing Machine Light provides bright white pinpoint illumination in hard to see work areas. Compact with an adjustable 5.5” bendable neck, it comes with a unique adhesive base can be affixed onto any sewing machine surface—providing essential lighting for poorly lit machines, especially near needle or seam ripping areas. The detachable LED light can be moved between bases (two included) for optimum lighting flexibility."

So here's the deal.  To win this light with 2 bases just leave a comment on today's post and tell me which sewing machine you own needs a new light.  I've named most of my machines so I'd be happy to hear what you've named yours.  The drawing will be next Friday, Sept. 27.  And, make sure you have left an email address for me to contact if you are an anonymous poster.  I won't mess with numbers of entries, as in post to your blog get another entry,  but feel free to spread the word.   And, to be eligible for the drawing you must live in the US, sorry international folks I don't want to have to find out if it is legal to ship these to other countries. Last requirement is you must post a comment on this post to be eligible.  **All comments must be posted by midnight, Thursday Sept 26, EST.** Just added this to make life a little easier.

I leave you with one of my little knickknacks that hang around in the studio with me.

Happy Quilting All!

  1. How exciting to have an opportunity to win a light. Thanks!

My Bernina needs an additional light because the lighting in my sewing room is anything but ideal.

  2. Happy Blogoversary! I always enjoy your posts so I'm glad you are here. My "workhorse" sewing maching is my Bernina 1080, known as Bernie. (I know, not very original.) I have the EcoluxLighting for him, though, that I learned about on Bonnie Hunter's blog. I do need extra light (can one ever have too much light? not in my book) for my Janome Jem. This is my machine that I'm supposed to take when I go places, but I never do, probably because it could use more light. Thanks for the chance to win!

  3. Happy Blogoversary! My Babylock Espire could use more light. Her name is Bertha! Mainly because beside a featherweight she seems huge. Thanks so much for sharing with us.

  4. time flies! Happy blogaversary! I would like to try this little light on my HQ (Harriet Quigley)16 since it's cordless.
No idea why I named her that--it just popped into my head one day.
My 2 other sewing machines both Pfaff's have never had a name...shrug... Thanks for the chance

  5. I remember when you started the blog! I thought the whole idea sounded so 'high tech' to me and now I'm enjoying blogging as well. Thanks for the inspiration as always. I have two machines, both Singers, one is a serger. I haven't named them (well I have many names for the Serger but none of them fit to print). My "main man" Singer is how I sloperate, so we call it a Singer-Sloperator. It would love a light!! :)

  6. I think I've been reading and enjoying your blog almost from the beginning. That light would be perfect for my little workshop Kenmore that I call Baby Blue. Congrats on a job well done.

  8. I don't really have a name for any of my machines -- which is strange because I used to name all kinds of things (including my violin - I named her Ophelia). -- lexingtonquilter@embarqmail.com

  9. My Elna is great, but the light in the area where I work is sadly lacking. This light looks like a great solution to the problem! Happy anniversary...

  10. Hello Bonnie,
Happy Anniversary!! I love reading your blog, especially, when it's design wall Monday :)). It really brightens my day.
Percie is what my machine is called, because she's very persnickety about the thread that she is threaded with. She's a mettler girl through and through.
She would love to have a new light.
Thank you for the chance to win and the great quilts that you share

  12. The machine that needs a light is LouAnn. She's a Singer 15-91 who has worked hard all her life. I suspect she is a "loose woman" as she clatters along and sews VERY fast! But she's also very dependable and has a fine stitch.

  13. Hi Bonnie,
What a wonderful - and incredibly valuable- giveaway. I have a very old SInger- my one and only machine which I love. THe light has been broken for abut 1 year now and a lamp to focus on what I am sewing- WOW! Perhaps poor lighting is why my little quilts have a life of their own!
Thank you for this lovely opportunity and thank you for your blog. I am always learning something!

  16. Happy 5 yr Anniversary to you. Time flies by, doesn't it.? I love your QOV and flag blocks that you are making to send to others. I'm doing QOV ones too. Thanks for the chance to win a much needed light which I would use with my Featherweight. Her light doesn't work and my eyes are old (almost as old as see is. She doesn't have a proper name, but I call her my little "sweet thing". She sews beautifully.

  17. Hi Bonnie! I follow with you on the small quilt group... I really like this light, it would be helpful for me when piecing as me husquavarna has lighting everywhere but where the fabric feeds under the needle! Happy Blogaversary and thank you for the giveaway!
    Take care, Leslie

  18. I've been thinking of getting one of these lately. My little Singer Featherweight could use the help when I set up my table in the middle of the living room. So many neat things now days to help us with our sewing!
    And happy blog anniversary Bonnie!

  19. Oh, what a generous giveaway!! I have an old Domestic sewing machine that is my favorite. It just sews so true and I love the sound of her. She doesn't have a name, though. Guess I should rectify that!! She's in a cabinet down in my kitchen and I use her to do all my piecing when I'm with my son, Patrick. She's kind of in a corner, so the light would be a wonderful help!!
