Fabric Goodies and CIJ Quicky

New fabric arrived yesterday!
I did a little shopping on Craftsy when I got an ad about some kits on sale.
When I realized the fabric was under $4.00 a yard I succumbed. I mostly make boy quilts for the NICU as Janet (a nurse in the unit) says there are more boys than girls in the unit usually. This Space Camp fabric by Lily and Loom fits my needs exactly.

Complete Kit + backing fabric
I added 2 yards of this for the backing.

Pattern. Way too big at 69 x 69" for my use.  I'll make 2 smaller quilts.

Here's a quick pic of my giveaway items for my Christmas In July post tomorrow, Monday July 23. I use my fold up box as a thread catcher and the zippered pouch is my go to to corral supplies like my rotary cutter and little scissors when I travel.

I'm linking up with Oh Scrap! As if I haven't given you a lot of sites to be looking at -- try to take a few minutes to check out the links on Oh Scrap today.

Quick CIJ Post

I was late getting to my post today so I'm setting it up for Saturday, day 8.  It'll be a short one with a few random Christmas items and our next links for the Christmas in July blog hop.
My version of 2017 CIJ quilt from Sarah.
My Christmas Favorites -- a quilt from Art to Heart.

From the 2016 Faithful Circle Quilters show. I'm not sure who made it

From 2016 FCQ Show. I think Peg made the stick Santa; I'm not sure who did the tree skirt.

Successful Charity Sewing Day

I can check off one of my goals this week.  I spent a good part of yesterday working at the the Virginia Star Quilters charity open sew.  It started at 8:30 but I didn't make it until a little before 11.    Someone had donated several finished tops, block sets and the like.  A committee had prepared kits for people to sew during the day.

I got to work tying a "summer" quilt -- one without batting.  Except, it had been a long time since I tied a quilt... I put the thread between every block -- not a problem except the blocks were about 4" and that was way too many ties.  It took us forever to finish them!  But it got done! (hum, I wonder whose feet those are! Not mine!)

Next up was an interestingly designed quilt.  It was a wonderful mix of fabric and must have been really easy to make.  This one got tied pretty quickly and then we trimmed the batting and turned the back up to the front and stitched it down.

We had another quilt similar to this one and we pinned it and someone did "organic" lines -- that is slightly wavy lines quilted up and down. It looked terrific and was pretty fast. I wish I'd gotten a picture of that one too.  (It was getting late in the afternoon and I was pooped!)

I'm not sure whether this was a donated top or whether one of the members put this one together.  Bt it sure came out nicely.

Our regular scheduled meeting was held after the sew in. It's amazing how many quilts were finished and tops made by about a dozen dedicated quilters.    I should have taken pictures of the pile of finished quilts -- I think about 10 were finished during the day.  And, we probably have another 8 to 10 tops ready to finish. I brought one home to throw on Ruthie too.  All of these quilts will go to a local agency for seniors.  (Wait, most of us sewing were seniors.)

You know what comes next!  Another day of Christmas in July.

Airplanes and More

I failed to take a picture of my airplane quilt.  Rats! On Saturday it went to St. Francis NICU to be used as needed.  Here's a picture of one block and the quilting.
I used Dave's Airplane edge to edge.  It you look at the nose of the yellow plane you'll see the tail of the quilted plane. It's a rounded looking plane. The wing goes to the left and down from the engine. See the hook to the left of the yellow plane's tail?  That's the other wing which also makes the cockpit.  Very stylized but I liked it on the quilt.  I used Superior's Omni thread in silver.  I don't remember which batting I used but I know it was a leftover piece.

So the last pictures of our DC trip are from the Air and Space Museum. (Yesterday's pictures were from the National Museum of American History.)

Dadaaaadumm... yes, it is the Enterprise from Star Trek.  Recently we've found a station that runs Star Trek episodes every evening.  We've gotten hooked.  (And  we really don't watch much television.)  Looking back at the program it is amazing how simple and pretty crazy the sets, costumes and lands were.  But I'm enjoying them way too much.

I have no idea why this balloon was displayed.  I just thought it was interesting.  This is the last of my DC trip photos.  I didn't even get a photo of lunch with our son. He works up the street from the Mall so we try to go when he is free for lunch.  We met at the National  Museum of the American Indian. The lunch was great but like all museum food it was expensive.  I'm sure we'll plan another trip to DC in the fall.  Even though we went in late May there were tons of tour buses of teens and lots of families.  Maybe the fall will be less crowded.
