Stash Busting Report February

What can I say? I've been buying for specific projects.  Well, except for 3 yards of a fun white on white.  But, honestly, all the rest was for specific projects, um except maybe the polka dot fabric...

I've taken new pictures of the block I am working on.  Check Monday's post for the first two pictures.  Here is one more. The center block is the piece I am planning on using for the border.  In fact, I used this print to pull the fabrics.  I am close to getting all the subunits  finished.  It's time for me to make up my mind.  Do you want to add your ideas?  Leave a comment.  The yellow is out -- way too bright.  So now, between the brown shown on Monday's post and the print today which do you like best.

I am sure that blue grey fabric with the spindles in it will drive me crazy.  It seemed like it was the right color but I'm not so sure seeing it in the photo.  Unfortunately it's staying as I have very little of anything else in those shades of blue.

I've been getting my directions and fabrics ready to send to Quilt Bees a group of 12 gals from across the US. Most are my daughter Jenny's age and not all are quilters.  None the less, we've all been making some wonderful and fun blocks.  In fact I made my first 1600 style quilt for one of the gals who sent each of us 32 strips. Check my post about it here.  We've made one or two blocks from the pattern and fabric provided from the monthly Queen Bee.  I am the last to be the Queen Bee so everyone has 11 blocks done.  I'm using my new standard block, pinwheel variation. My blocks will be made into a quilt for Alycia's Quilts of Valor.  Watch for the finished quilt sometime in late spring/early summer.

Design Wall Monday 9-24-2012

Not a whole lot I can show you today.  I finished these pineapple blocks for Joan as part of the FCQEquilters group.

As I said earlier... what a great way to use up scraps.

I also made this wonky log cabin block. I don't think I followed the directions correctly as I had a hard time getting the block to grow evenly on right side and bottom.  I have one more block to make with these fab colors so I should get it right.  This is for the Quilting Bees.  I volunteered to make 2 so the second one will go together easier, or so I hope.  Check out the tutorial at Just Jude
I've just about finished Scrap Squad #4.  Quilty Pleasures has begun to feature the quilts on the blog.  You can check out the first one by clicking the link.  Wow!  Donna did a fabulous job.  And, her quilting is putting mine to shame.  Heck, I'm doing a fast hand quilting as it is small and I really didn't want to put it on Ruthie.

On to the goals from last week.
Week of Sept 17
bind Snowmen and Santa quilt
Put Scrap Squad #4 together
Pull fabric for Scrap Squad #5
Make a sample block for #5
Put the new memory in the laptop√
Not bad but I haven't done anything on SS #5.  What I did do was begin to quilt a charity quilt on Ruthie.  I decided to try feathers on it.  Um, er, didn't work out really well.  So my feathers became palm fronds and voila!  It looks great.  But it is time consuming so I've done about half and will get back to it this week.
Week of Sept 24
Finish handquilting SS #4
Finish pillow sham for bedroom
Finish charity quilt on Ruthie
Finish 2nd Wonky Corners block
Draw SS #5 in EQ
Make a sample block of SS #5

It's time to link up with Patchwork Times' Design Wall Monday post.  And, I'm getting right on the scrap squad quilt quilting.

Wonky Log Cabin

I just have to share this great quilt I just finished quilting.  Heidi, the queen bee of a group of 12 quilters who are making blocks for each other started our group with these large, wonky log cabins.  She finished the top within a month or two of getting all of her blocks back.  Many of these gals are not quilters (yet) but all like the idea of quilting.  Some have been sewing clothes and household items for years.  We've gone through three months and I just love working with the fabrics the gals are picking.  (Anything new is a great joy to me!)

Here is Heidi's quilt on my bed so that I can show it off.
I used a spiral groovy board.  Makes nearly perfect spirals one large, one small.  I now know that the table of my long arm is not flat.  It also doesn't have the same amount of space from the rails to table on the front of the machine.
This close up shows off the quilting quite well.
Is it a good thing or a bad thing that you can't see the quilting on the back very well?

Thanks Heidi for letting me quilt this one.  I really enjoyed it!
