Monday Meanderings 9 - 14 - 2026

Just like several of us thought, the comfortable lower temps didn't last.  I just walked Sunny and the humidity was awful.  The heat was ok for evening.  Needless to say I spent most of time in my basement studio working on Ms. Frog.  As much as I like her I am ready to do work on some other projects.  Here's last week's goals. 

9/7/26

✅Keep sewing on Idiom — Quilt Done except hand sewing the binding and adding 4 beads. 

✅Finish quilting customer top — done. Forgot to ask owner if it is ok to share. 

√ Sew July UFO together — blocks are sewn together ready to stitch to center. 

✅Cut one kit for October retreat — finished. Ready to sew at retreat.  

Here's a few process pictures of Ms. Frog. The color is wrong on the first two pics. The background fabric is a slate grey. The clouds have a grey background and some navy netting.  

Here are the changes on the pictures.  Picture 1: clouds added, eyes. Picture 2: nose and mouth, frog body zigzagged down, calf muscle highlighted, whirlpool.  Picture 3: another circle added to whirlpool, additional rain added to the bottom right and left, two plants added, silver raindrops added from two umbrella points.  Picture 4: plant veins highlighted. 

Next week I'll added a picture of the finished quilt.  I'll just say there are a few beads being added! 

I loaded one of my quilts but didn't get time to quilt it.  Maybe I'll have it done next week! 

Here is part of a kit I cut out this week. (Okay, Sunday afternoon!) 

The ABC fabric is definitely retro. Or maybe just old.  I am using a smaller version of Honey Bouquet -- mine will end up 36 x 36".  I've added a couple of soft yellows and greens. 

The good news is I've found another pattern and fabric I want to cut out for the next project for retreat..  Hopefully I'll share it next week.

Have you checked your voter registration this year?  You might want to make sure you are still registered.  I Googled Virginia State Voter Registration and was taken to Virginia Voter Information. From there I could check my voter registration with a little additional information .  It also was neat to see all the elections I've voted in since I moved to Virginia. That's 16 years of voting! If you can't find yourself please check it out.  You may need to re-register. If you haven't registered or you've moved, state deadlines are anywhere from30 days before the election to the shortest: the day of. Different states have different requirements.  Remember to vote this November.

Monday Meanderings -- June 29, 2026

I hope all of you are safe and healthy after all this bad weather that has been spreading across the US over the last few weeks. Local weather people keep saying we (the greater DC area) were going to get heavy rain.  We all need it. But, as usual the clouds seemed to split over our area and go north and south. We did get some heavy rain this week but it was no where near enough. I'm sharing our 9 day forecast via Apple's weather app on my iPhone. It'll change every day, or so it seems every week.  I'm just hoping the days with 100 as the high actually changes to lower temps before the days arrive. I'm not holding my breath on that happening though.  And this doesn't show the humidity going sky high also.  It's going to be humid too. My basement studio sounds really good this week. **The weather has changed overnight! We'll have 2days of 100+ temps, and rain only on Monday. I expect it will continue to change everyday. Sigh. At least 7/4 is "suppose" to be dry instead of rain! 

Here's what I accomplished this week. 

6/22/26 

✅Start quilting Fall Blocks (June ufo challenge project)— first part done. 

✅✅Finish two more Veronica blocks✔️✔️ and 4 additional ones cut out. 

✅Keep checking project boxes or zippered pouches to free them up for other projects — one emptied. 

✅Work on Snowman #2 — worked a couple of hours on this one. 

✅Knit a beanie — finished one and started another. 

✅Start table runner for retreat — cut out, some sewing done. 

The only pictures I got of worked-on projects were of the table runner I am making for retreat. We rent a house in northwest Virginia and I will be leaving it at the house for future renters. The pattern is Heart Strings designed by Tricia Lynn Maloney for Villa Rosa Designs.  It is a very versatile pattern. It is 16" x 60".  The table I'm making it for is 15" x 60" and it's been easy to make the change so it will fit.  There are 5 blocks like this in the runner.  It took me longer to cut out the fabrics than the time spent sewing.

Here's an upclose picture of the fabrics I chose.  All of these came from my stash. The blue with white will be the backing and binding.  I hope to finish it Tuesday. I'll be quilting it with stars of some sort.

The only non-quilting item on the list is clearing things out of closets and dresser tops.  We have been doing some updating of our house. Before the new carpet comes in the master bedroom and bathroom will be painted.  Here's a pic of one of the new counter tops in the bathroom. We got rid of the previous counter tops -- builder's grade that was turning yellow.  We have two sinks/cabinets in our bathroom. So two new sinks and quartz countertops have been installed. Plus we also replaced the granite (that was pitted and rough) in the kitchen with a similar looking quartz.  

It is going to be interesting getting everything moved out of the guest room closet -- it's packed floor to ceiling.  Hopefully some of the stuff will be given away.  But I do need to start working on it now! 

I've changed my mind about making more new kits to worked on at retreat.  Currently I have 2 kits ready to go.  But I'll need a lot more projects. I've gone through some of my project bags and found several that I could work on at retreat. Here's a pic of the string blocks I've been working on. These blocks are finished and ready to sew together.  I have another group that are sewn but not trimmed. And I need to get 7 more made, preferably before retreat.  I've pulled several other project that are partially done to finish up at retreat. 

Another week with 100% of 15 minute stitching! Whoopee!

And, here is the last quilt Sharon quilted on Ruthie when she was here.  

The blocks were made by quilters from Faithful Circle Quilters who signed up for this swap. They all had a yardage of the same fabric that had to be used in each block. Sharon chose the setting with the stars and added the border. Here are a few close ups. 

 

I believe Sharon said these were done during covid.  I'm sorry I don't remember which block was hers.  Sharon chose Bright Lights edge to edge by My Creative Stitches. She chose a dark green So Fine thread from Superior threads. She reports that she's got the binding on it. I think she said it's all sewn down by hand.

Because I've enjoyed seeing pictures of flowers that several bloggers share I decided to include a coupe of our flowers. First, I will admit we aren't big gardeners.  But lilies are pretty easy to grow.  So I'm sharing a couple pics of ours.  I have learned I can cut them and bring them in the house. But, they don't usually last long, except Cala Lilies. We don't have any in the yard but I hope to add some this year.

Monday Meanderings 5 - 13 - 2019

It's retreat week!  Whoop! Whoop! 

I've got just a few days before I'm heading to Lancaster County, PA for a retreat with my friends from Maryland. We always have a lot of fun.  I haven't decided if I'm going to head out shopping with friends or spend the whole time sewing. I know I'll have a great time and I'll be exhausted when I get home.  

I've been getting ready by cutting out projects.  These kits are ready to become quilts.  Do you think 6 is too many for a retreat from Thursday to Sunday?  Most of them are small, easy quilt tops.  Only one is lap quilt size, the others are smaller.  

Here's one of the two friendship star quilts I quilted this weekend.  At the top of the picture you can just see a point of a star on the first quilt I did.  I loaded a wide back and quilted one after another.  It went well. 

This was on my goal list last week so you can see I got it done!  Yea. In fact, I was so focused I only had one item that wasn't totally completed.  Prepping the paper piecing designs I might work on at retreat was time consuming.  It's mostly finished but I wanted to reverse some of the designs so that was taking time.  I'll finish them all before I leave Thursday. Monday Meanderings 1 - 7 - 2019

Here's what I worked on the first week of 2019 - - 

This is for the Calendar Challenge.  We picked a month or season and need to create a wall hanging to represent the month.  Mine is December and I'm working on a Christmas tree.  I want to commemorate the wonderful handmade ornaments my great aunt gave us for years.  So first comes the tree. 

No pictures yet but I have been making progress on the log cabin blocks.  I think I have 31 of the 63 I need done. Every day I try to add a log or two to the 10 or so blocks I have going.  

One thing I added to my goals in the fall was to clean off my cutting table.  Did I share what it looks like then?  I don't think so.  Argh!  Here's what a section of it looks like now. (heck, it probably looked the same then with one less layer of fabric!)  

Not such a pretty sight.  I tend to pile up left over fabrics that can't be stored on my shelves or in my baskets of fat quarters.  So, this pile of stuff represents way too many months of finished projects.  Hum, I see some left overs from my bargello top, and ooh, there's some turquoise from Sea Glass and the black and whites are from my current log cabin project.  The main issue I have is I need to trim or cut into squares or strips.  And, I hate doing that.  So, eventually, I'll sweep it all into one of two huge baskets and then I'll have this end of my cutting table ready to us. 

Lest you think I try to work around that mess, here's a snap of the other big section of the cutting table.  Yes, I do have a pretty big space.  Across from this clean section is my Go cutter.  Very convenient. 

I included a pic of the project boxes under the table.  I haven't changed what's in those boxes for quite a while even though I know I've finished the projects.  Check my goals for this week.  I hope to go through them and change to new projects or UFOs. 

And, this week I cut out all the pieces for Carousel except the little squares that go in the center of the blocks.  A decision as to what color will be made after I make most of the blocks. The kit is ready for the retreat down at Sharon's house next week.  (I guess I'll be bringing the log cabin blocks too but variety is the spice of piecing!)
