Monday Meanderings 9 - 26 - 2021

Another successful week has come to a close.  Let's jump right in and see how I've done on my goals this past week.  It was a pretty darn good week, if I do say so myself.

9/20/2021

Finish orange table runner (see it here.)

Start sashing UFO --  this might be going with me on retreat.

If parts arrive, fix Ruthie

Finish quilt on Ruthie

Put border on curved 9 patch

This was made with the Accuquilt Go! Glorified Nine Patch.  I'm not sure I would have tried this block without having the die.  It was so EASY to cut and sew those curves.  My mind is wondering what other colors I can make these blocks in.  As to the borders, I'm not so sure about them.  When Sharon visited earlier this summer we auditioned all sorts of fabric from my stash. This is the one we thought looked the best. Um, I'm not so sure now. I'm going to take it on retreat this weekend and see what folks say. I might be buying new fabric for the border. (Click on the picture to see it a little bigger.)

Yea! The parts for Ruthie finally arrived late Thursday afternoon. After dinner I went down and put the new items on her and got rid of the old pieces. I got 3 of the 5 rows done on one of my small quilts. The next morning I finished it up. I put a charity quilt on Ruthie Saturday and got it finished first thing on Sunday.  Hopefully Tuesday I'll put another one on and get it done so I can pass all 3 quilts off to MB to take to FCQ in Maryland.

Let's look at this week's goals list.  It's loaded with all sorts of things!

Hum, I'll be back to link up the other locations. (Did you notice I even succeeded with To Do Tuesday last week?)

I'm looking forward to retreat this week.  If I can I'll post something on Friday.  If not come back Monday to see what I was able to do on retreat.

Happy Quilting!  Bonnie

  1. Yeah, I am glad you got Ruthie back in shape! I feel like that border takes away from your beautiful curved blocks, however in person it may look different. I attempted those blocks using the Quick Curve ruler, mine still sit in a box somewhere.

  2. nice blocks but i agree...the border fabric doesn't work and does nothing for the great blocks...i'd keep looking...

  4. I love the Glorified Nine Patch! It's on my list to do. I think I would look for another border, that one isn't quite right. Have fun on your retreat!

  5. Congrats on the goals last week! Let us know what your quilty friends think of the border. I'm excited for you going on retreat!
Thanks (in advance) for linking to To Do Tuesday. The link will be live early in the morning. ;)

  6. I think a white-background border -- with plops of bright colors, or maybe bright flowers -- would work well with the G9P. And I am sure that the die cutting would make this block so much easier than cutting with traditional templates (even with acrylic templates). Have fun at the retreat!

  7. Audition a dark solid for a frame around the blocks and then the border fabric. I think it would make a big difference in how much you like it.

  8. Such a pretty quilt, Bonnie. I look forward to seeing what the finally decision will be on the border. I retreat sounds wonderful; I hope you have a great time. Happy quilting.

  10. I like your curved nine patch blocks. I think, though, that when you are wondering if something is right, it is probably a sign to keep looking. Photos really do help to see how a quilt works. Although I like your border, it might not be the one next to your vibrant blocks. Perhaps it is the scale, but it ends up looking muddy. I hope you can find something that makes you say, “Yes!” Have fun on your retreat!

  11. Hi Bonnie! I'd say you did have a pretty darn good week, too!! WOW - you did great fixing Ruthie. Those glorified 9-patch blocks look fabulous. I have to agree that the border isn't quite right. It seems to compete for attention instead of enhancing. I really look forward to seeing what you decide to do with this lovely near-quilt-top. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
