Retreat Eye Candy!

Here are some of the projects that got worked on during retreat.  NONE of these are my projects but I sure wouldn't mind owning some of them! 

Do you remember this quilt from this post? Yes, you get to see my darling grands again but scroll down to the bottom.  There's the same quilt without borders.  Thanks go to Janice H. for suggesting the smaller pink border.  Sharon took the quilt home with her and happened to read the comments before picking out the borders.  She loved the idea and followed through with it. Janice was definitely right about this one!  I've got it to quilt it and then on it will go to Project Linus. These blocks were won at a retreat lottery several years back. 

Sharon started working on these hot chilies near the end of the retreat.  She laid them out on two different backgrounds to decide which she liked better the black or the red.  She and I both said the black as soon as we saw them together but I'm not sure I don't like the red better.  Glad it isn't my decision to make! 

MaryBeth was tickled to get this top finished -- unless she decides to put borders on it.

Sharon started and finished this cute Fourth of July wall hanging.  Directions were in  one of Quiltmaker's magazines this year. (Maybe the May June issue?) 

Michele made a tuffet for her grandmother. 

Bea put this together.  I'm not sure if it was a kit or not but I do know she started it at retreat and got it this far along. I think some borders come next. 

Dorothy was working on log cabin circles.  Don't you love her t-shirt?  There were a lot of different quilty shirts to enjoy at retreat. 

That's the end of pictures that I took at retreat.  There were a lot more projects being worked on but I just wasn't fast enough to snap pictures.

Small rant -- Why does Blogger make it so hard to work with pictures?!!?  I had planned to show these pictures in a different order but as I started at the top I realized I could no longer move any pictures up or down.  Grumble, grumble.  In the end it probably doesn't make any difference at all but really, I wish it worked better.  I probably should look at Word Press one of these days. I know there are a lot more things I could control with it.... Sigh.

Design Wall Monday 10 - 26 - 2015

Hum, I dropped out of view for a little over a week.  Nothing bad happening, just busy as all get out! I have sewn 4 seams in the last week +.  But I've been embroidering like crazy. Here's what I've done in the last week. 

Ellie's birthday party was Saturday so I had a lot of fun embroidering a cute little jeans jacket. Before I put the design on the jacket I stitched it out on white twill fabric.  I'm thinking that will be made up into a tote bag or maybe a sewing machine cover. Check out the next picture down.  I was able to stitch a design on the collar too.  Thanks to Dorothy for expert instruction.

Since no jacket is complete without a top and jeans, I embroidered some balloons from the same set on the shirt. The jeans didn't get any special treatment. 

I also made Halloween shirts for all the grands. Ellie got the dog pumpkin.  Hmmm, I wonder if I should have used a larger design on that one. 

Natalie got a kitty cat sitting in front of the moon.  Nice thing is these shirts get handed down so Ellie may get them in the future. 

Sophie got the cool ghost with the hat in her formerly favorite color, blue.  I hear she is now a "red" girl.  Good thing I found out before I do the Christmas presents.... 

The four inner borders for this quilt is the only actual sewing I did this week. This will be a donation quilt to the nursing home we support.   I am so ready to get back to my quilting.  But darn, I have several more ideas for embroidering. But no more embroidery for a while. I'm ready to actually do some more piecing. I have several quilts to quilt for customers so those will be up next.  

I  leave you with a pumpkin scene that was in front of a Mexican restaurant.  Someone has a good sense of humor.  

Since I didn't post last week I'll skip my review of my goals last week.  Yes, I did write up and tried to accomplish those goals. Here are my goals for the upcoming week.

Sometimes It All Comes Together

The long arm quilters in my guild, Country Piecemakers, have agreed to quilt small donation quilts for $5. a quilt.  I like doing these small, fast little quilts.  I get to try designs I haven't used before or thread or... you get the idea.  They are fast and fun to my thinking.  Dorothy gave me this darling little quilt to do for her at the last meeting.  Everything came together beautifully.  

I picked a design called Inkblot Flowers.  I used Omni thread that was a sage green. (Honestly, I never would have picked a contrasting thread if I was doing this as hand guided.) I believe the batting is Quilters Dream Poly.  I was so tickled with it I sent Dorothy a text with a picture (in fact, the picture above) when I first started it.  She liked it too.

 

Finished, ready to return to Dorothy and let her finish it off.  And the back... The picture is a little dark but I love the definition this combo has given the quilt.  

Next up on Ruthie is my little Soccer Bears quilt. I'm not sure what batting I will use on it.  It depends what I have in the leftover batting tote.  The front is really busy so I doubt I'll get this definition but the back is a lightly mottled cream so maybe the back will look like this.  Check back in the next few days to see what happens.  Of course, I need to decide on the design before this can get going!
