Monday Meanderings 5 - 27 -2019

I'm back!  I was really worn out from retreat and what turned into a raging cough/cold.  Ugh.  By Saturday of retreat I was feeling pretty bad.  But after taking a little nap in the morning I was feeling fairly peppy and went back to sewing.  And, boy, was I successful during retreat.  Go take a look at my 6 project bags ready to go on retreat here.

And now a quick photo tour of some of the projects I finished (or nearly finished).  First lady bugs and stars.  The star blocks were leftover from an old project.  I was tickled to find all the other fabrics in my stash.  Simple concept and easy to sew.
Next up Foxie Quilt.  The long strip of fox fabric was left over from my grandson's baby quilt -- it was the backing.  Everything else was in my stash, some fat quarters and some yardage. I'm planning on using a different quilting pattern in each color.  Haven't figured out what I'm doing on the foxes yet.
And, last is my parrot quilt. Once again, all the fabric is from my stash!  Whoop! Whoop.  It didn't get finished at retreat. I wanted to add some parrot fabric borders.  Which I started on today.  Still need to get the top and bottom border on.
I nearly completed one other top but I need borders to finish it off.  I'm hoping a friend has the perfect fabric for borders, I've already found backing in my stash.  It'll look better when finished so I'll share it when I get the border on.

I did work a little bit on the 5th project which is putting these blocks together. I got a start on putting the four blocks together with the sashing.  I haven't decided if I really like the peachy color I picked for the sashing.  On the other hand, the blocks I put together already were mostly mustard color and orange.  I'm going to try to get the rest done soon and see if I like them or not.

The 6th project got moved from the bag to the table and back to bag.  I didn't work on it at all.  I think I'll take it to sewing days to see if I can move it along.

I was very run down and exhausted when I got back from retreat.  My cold was just nasty although for the most part it was more a cough than a cold.  I spent most of last week lazing around and reading a whole bunch of books that needed to be returned to the library. (Why is it 3 or 4 books on reserve show up at the same time?)  The other thing that I "got" at retreat was some nasty bug bites.  I was originally thinking they might have been bed bug bites but I've changed my mind -- probably spider bites.  And ugh, they itch like crazy and have red puffy skin around all of them.  Maybe 10 or so bites. YUCK.  And, still a week later they itch and are ugly.  Hopefully they'll start to fade soon.  My doctor was more interested in the chest cold than the bites. Oh well.

By Saturday I was feeling better and motivated so I was able to start and finish sewing on the binding on one of the airplane quilts. The second one was finished Sunday.  Yea!

Although I didn't list my goals for last week online -- I did write some.  Here's goals from 5/13 and 5/20.

  3. sorry about those bites, that kind of thing drives me crazy - depending on the time of the year I wake up sometimes with a bite or two and always wonder what got me - I do spend a lot of time outside - my sheets are clean! It is probably the little "no see ums" Hope your cold gets better.

  4. You got a lot done, so yeah! Coming home with a cough and cold, not so much fun. Glad you are feeling better. Your left overs quilts turned out so cute. Love both of them.

  5. From your description, I'd guess the bites were from a spider. Try some Gold Bond powder on them. It eases the swelling and itching. Ask me how I know. . . Hope you feel better soon and kick the cough/cold to the curb.

  6. I hate when I get bites - they itch so much. You have all my sympathy.

It sounds like you had a very productive time. I look forward to seeing how you quilt Foxie. Hopefully it is fun to quilt.
