Help Wanted!

I belong to a group I call Faithful Circle Quilters Equilters, or FCQEquilters for short. We are all former members of the Columbia, Maryand quilt guild, Faithful Circle Quilters. (except, I've maintained my membership as I try to go to some of the classes and meetings when I am in the area.) There are 6 members who each requests a specific block(s) that the rest of us make. Or sometimes many quilts from. Last year I designed a block that I called Plaza del Sol as I had taken the idea from a plaza in Cancun, Mexico during my vacation. I had put the blocks aside and continued with other projects. Yesterday I dragged them out and spread them on my design bed. (hey, all the company is gone so I can use the design bed again!)

Here are all the ways I could figure out to lay them out. Which is your favorite and why? (Ok, so if you don't want to say why that's ok too.)

Sample 1: (I have enough of the smaller blocks to add a colored row on the left and top so it would have a complete look to it.)

Sample 2:

Sample 3:
The colors are more accurate in sample one as I took the other two at night. And, in case you are interested, here's a close up of my block:

Share your favorites. I will be putting this together between my other activities. I am going to try to finish NYE 2009 Mystery today and use the Carolina Christmas Mystery as my leaders and enders. Once I decide on my lay out for Plaza Del Sol I will use that as leaders and enders. Things are getting busy around here so I need to focus on getting things done and staying warm! I'm hoping on staying in the house all day tomorrow and just go out tomorrow for the Wednesday Quilters.

Happy Quilting All!

  1. Bonnie, I like sample 1. It is just more pleasing to me.

  2. I like layout number 1. This would be a great quilt for practicing quilting with rulers. Stars in the blocks, Xs in the rectangles.

Just a thought. It will be lovely however it's laid out and quilted!

  3. I am in the sample one camp, providing you make that other row of colored strips to finish it off. My second choice would be three, but I think you should rotate the block in upper left corner 90 degrees to the right so it doesn't run into the next row of zigzags. I love the colors, such a happy quilt this one will be!

  5. I like #1, 3, and 2 in that order. The open area in #2 is too large for my eye. I like the flow of #1 because my eye has a place to rest.

It is a very colorful and fun quilt.

  7. Sample 1 is my favorite since it looks the most geometric. The other layouts are more abstract. Love the colors!

  10. #3 gets my vote.
Another thought would be, if it's going to go to a child, ask them to help you decide. That would be great fun for them, and perhaps you too.

  12. Wow - nice bright blocks that will look good whichever setting you use. I am, of course, pulled to the diagonals in setting 3. That's my top choice. One is good as well, but quite traditional. No, no, no to setting 2. hope I'm not too late with my comment, this is the first day back to the computer.

  13. I like 3, but 1 would be a winner with the stripe of brights on the side too.

  14. I'm sure you have it all put together by now... as I'm late in getting around to your blog ;) but I like the 1st photo best. Simply because I think those large squares could use some big starts quilted in them to go with the print of the fabric ;)

    Love the bright colors!!!

  15. I am really slow at getting to everyones blog but today is your turn. I like number three, I also see on point alternating up to down. but without the blocks in hand maybe that vision is just a crazy impossible dream. Love the colors and can't wait to see it done.
