Stats and Quilt Show Photos 1

Hum -- here it is the 26th and I haven't figured out my stats for April.  So, I sat down and added them up.  I made one quilt from start to finish, Synergy My Way. I quilted and bound two quilts, Bright Boxes and Glorified 9 Patch. I never add my fabric used until the top is quilted and bound.  It encourages me to finish my quilts rather than leave them as tops.  Finishing 3 quilts certainly has helped my stash busting statistics this month.  In fact, I used more fabric than I bought in April.  Here's what it looks like.

I realized this is the first month this year where my year-to-date stats show more fabric used than brought in. Whopee! 

The following quilts are from the Faithful Circle Quilt Show last weekend.  These quilts were made for the charity challenge. Someone had donated a bunch of fabric to the guild. Everyone was given a bag of fabrics to use to make a quilt. These are just a few of the quilts turned in. I think I heard there were over 300 quilts made for Project Linus Quilts of Howard County.  Here are the ones I snapped pictures of.

It's Quilt Show Time -- Alphabet Challenge

Once again the Faithful Circle Quilters have risen to a challenge.  Last year volunteers were given a brown bag with fabric in it.  The challenge was to make a Project Linus quilt with the fabric given (which had to be used on the front of the quilt) and use the alphabet some how.  All the quilts will be given to Project Linus of Howard County, Maryland.  Here's a few of the challenge quilts being shown at our quilt show. (If I know who made the quilt I have given their name.  Unfortunately, I didn't do a great job of figuring out who made which quilt.  I'll try to get the quilter's name on Saturday. These folks did such a great job they need to get a lot of accolades.)

Monday Meanderings 4 - 9 - 2018

How can a week roll by so fast?  For pity sakes, I'm retired.  My life is mostly quilting, reading and singing in groups.  Why does it feel like time just flies by?  Do you feel that times just goes by at a fast clip? 

Most of my week was spent on the Alabama T Shirt quilt. I had it sewn together and then loaded on Ruthie 2.  Since it was loaded by Friday afternoon/Saturday morning I decided I might as well get to the quilting part.  I finished the quilting on Sunday afternoon.  Yee haw!  Next up is binding.  Although I may start it tomorrow, I doubt I will finish it until next week.  

This Wednesday I drive to Columbia, Maryland to work at the Faithful Circle Quilters' show.  It is always a fun time for me as I get to spend time with lots of my old friends and make some new ones too.  Do you live anywhere near Columbia?  If so please stop in to view the show.  Here's the show flier with all the details.  I believe we will be hanging over 250 quilts.  And, there are vendors.  Somehow I always seem to come home with some goodies from the vendors. I hope to see you there! 

In my spare sewing time I've been making Garlic Knots.  The pattern was originally in the January/February 2014 Quiltmaker. Bonnie Hunter used the block in her column Addicted to Scraps. I've enjoy making the block several times.  This time it was Beth's choice for FCQEquilter's block. I went a bit wild making them -- they are so easy.  And, I also was able to find some of the squares in my 2" squares bin. Double bonus.  Here are the 9 (yes, I did go wild!) 9 blocks! Hum, didn't notice I left one block leaning the wrong way.  We were told to use bright colors. 

Progress is being made on my goals except cutting a kit for the May retreat.  It's started but I haven't done much except to move it out of the way recently.  Sigh.  The other three projects saw progress.  I'm continuing to make the string blocks for the Jamestown Landing quilt.  Not my favorite blocks but they are progressing.

Are you experiencing weird spring weather?  We certainly are!  We woke up to snow on the grass and deck Sunday morning.  April snow?  Yep.  It was pretty much gone by Monday morning.  Today we've had more flurries but no accumulation.  I'm ready for a little my warmth.  Rumor has it that it will hit 80º(F) on Friday.  Good grief... it was below freezing at night just a day or so ago and then up to 80?

FCQ Quilt Show Goodies

Hello from Columbia, Maryland! 

I'm staying with Sharon while we both work at the Faithful Circle Quilt Show.  Please stop by if you live in the DC area.  Visit the FCQ web page to get directions and details.  I heard that nearly (or was it over?) 300 quilts have been hung.  Plus we have vendors, demos and lots of opportunities to win stuff! Fun times! 

Here's a quick peek at a few of the quilts. 

You might recognize my owl quilt which is now owned by my granddaughter Natalie.

I thought this little fish quilt by Roma Knee was so creative.  This is part of the Dots for Tots challenge FCQ offered.  Anyone who wanted to participate was given a preselected group of polka dot fabric.  Remember my sailboat quilt? It's part of the challenge but it still needs its borders and quilting etc.  Here's a close up of the quilting Roma did on the fish. 

You can't  see the scales as well.  I was tickled with this quilt and think it would make a terrific kid's quilt.  I've been playing with drunkard's path blocks for the Throw Me a Curve challenge at Country Piecemakers.  The dp block isn't hard at all so I think there may be a fish in my future. 

If you are looking for my monthly fabric usage report I won't post it until I get back home.  I can give a quick recap though.  I didn't finish any quilt in April. NONE.  I did make several blocks for the monthly BOM but that is going to be it. I only bought 4 yards of which 3 yards was my short stack fabric by mail.  Hopefully I'll do much better in May!

WoW! What an Offer

This is the opportunity quilt for Faithful Circle Quilters in Columbia, Maryland. And, all I can say is wow. If you know anyone in the guild you can buy tickets from them.  Or better yet, plan to attend the quilt show in Columbia Thursday, April 26 through Sat, April 28, 2012. The quilt is usually designed by a group of members and made by as many members who can piece and applique.  It was quilted by Maria O'Haver. 


Personally, I hope we don't sell too many tickets because I want to win this one!  The winning ticket will be drawn at the quilt show on Saturday, April 28th.  Wish me luck.
                                                       
                                                                        

More Eye Candy from FCQ Show

Here are some more pictures of quilts from the Faithful Circle Quilt Show. This quilt was made by some of the members of the FCQ - EQuilters. It has been donated to raise money for breast cancer research. It's all hand quilted -- and definitely a WOW job of the hand quilting!

I was working with Stephanie and Peg hanging quilts in one of the smaller rooms during set up. Stephanie made this for breast cancer research also.

And here's a close up of the block. I asked her how much she would sell it for -- $500 as that is how much her quilts usually go for when they are raffled off. Not bad but I guess my grandbaby won't be getting it.

Here's another really cute baby quilt. Some lucky baby must really love this quilt!

A shower is being planned for Jen in a month or so and I can't figure out what I want to get for her. Or make for her or .... sigh. I have a few weeks to figure it out.

We have been traveling so much recently I'm not getting anything done. Well, I am close to finishing another block of A Tisket, A Tasket. I think I have three flower centers and the embroidery to do. Perhaps on Wednesday when I go to my Wednesday quilt group I can claim it as completed. I'm hoping to fire up Ruthie again and get a charity quilt and one of my smaller quilts done. We'll see. Today I've spent too much time on the computer. Time for lunch and then to the studio.

Eye Candy From Faithful Circle Quilters Show

Here are a few quilts that were hung at the Faithful Circle Quilters show last weekend. I am very sorry I didn't write down who made the quits. Rats.

I thought this was a really cute way to highlight novelty fabrics. And, come to think of it, I think I have this pattern and have made a quilt with it. Hum... How easily we forget!

These 9 patches were from when I was vice president of FCQ. I got wild and set them with snowball blocks not really thinking how big the quilt would be. It just about hits the floor all around on a queen size bed. It's in the "yellow" guest room. And, it's been slept under many a time. The quilting was done by Maria O'Haver. The color is off in this picture probably because of the flouresent light that was right above it. And, darn, you can't see the gorgeous quilting Maria did on it. (This was finished at least a year before I got Ruthie...) Notice that some of the 9 patches have dark corners and some have light corners. That really gives the quilt a different look -- more motion.

These three pieces were done in a workshop presented by Frieda Anderson. I believe they were made from kits that Frieda supplied. And done by three different people. I'm pretty sure the top one was done by Sharon Rhoton. What is really interesting is Frieda does just about everything with fusible web. The shocking part is the binding is done with fusible web also. Why not use fusible on the binding of small quilts? I doubt these were any bigger than 12" square.

I'll try to post a few more photos of quilts over the next few days. I didn't do a great job of taking pictures there but I have a few more to share with you.
