Design Wall Monday 1 - 4 - 2016

It's the first Design Wall Monday of 2016.

Here's my last piecing of 2015 and the first of 2016.  Both were cut out on my new Go cutter.  It was fun and fast cutting!  These two were wonderful to sew together.

Last of 2015
First of 2016

Surprisingly I had pretty good luck cutting the center squares of the jungle quilt on the GO -- no fussy cutting.  Now to find a border or two.  The brick quilt pattern comes from Jo's Country Junction and is called Stacking Bricks.  The original is sized as a baby quilt but I want mine to work for teens or adults.  So I added a few rows and I'll probably make the border wider when I finish it up.  This was a really easy pattern to put together. The rows are all the same you just flip the side with the square. Tres easy!

I also cut parallelograms to make a star block as shown on the packaging of the die.  It was especially easy sewing the triangles on to the parallelograms -- well at least once I figured out which side the triangles went on!  And, there was the problem with the stripes.  I wasn't paying any attention to the direction the stripes were going nor which way the right side of the fabric was going.  I'll need to cut two more sets. Hum, if I can figure out how I did this I should cut enough for two blocks since I've got half a block each twirling a different direction.  These will be going to an opportunity block event at Faithful Circle Quilters.  The block needs to feature stripe fabric.  Boy does this work! (Well, at least it will when I've got the sections right!)

The child's quilt was sewn on Dec. 31.  I finished off my last thread spool of 2015 with that quilt.  And, while sewing on Jan. 2 I almost used up another spool -- my first of 2016.  Later this month I'll be sharing my thread usage by showing the spools I emptied in 2015.  I'm going to review what neutral threads I have left -- I may need to add some full spools to my studio.

My goals last week were pretty sparse.  I knew we were going to the beach house. I took a project or two but wasn't sure if I would sew all the time or we would be out and about a lot.  The weather conspired against us as it was raining the first few days and then turned pretty cold.  So, yep, I sewed like a fiend. Here's how it looked from the goal's point of view.

That's it for this week.  I'm linking up with Monday Making at Love, Laugh, Quilt; Main Crush Monday at Cooking Up Quilts; and Design Wall Monday at Patchwork Times.  Enjoy a cup of tea or coffee while you see what is happening around the internet.

Happy Quilting All!

  2. Love the bricks quilt! That's the second post I've seen today where a cutter was used. I'm not familiar with those at all. You're off the a great start for 2016!

  3. Well done - looks like the GO cutter was a good purchase.

Last year, I used up odd bits of thread, but didn't think of saving the spools.
